چکیده

multiphenotype progeny derived from in vitro clonal expansion of a single multipotential neural stem cell isolated from embryonic rat telencephalon. The cells were fluorescently labeled using lineage-selective markers including cholera toxin B subunit (green), anti-9-O-acetylated GD3 (orange), anti-vimentin (red), and anti-GFAP (pink), and the cell nuclei were counterstained using DAPI (blue). The progeny include vimentin neural stem cells and radial glia, GFAP astrocytes, cholera toxin neurons, and 9-Oacetylated GD3 neuroglial neuronal progenitors. Control of epileptic seizures by electrical low frequency deep brain stimulation: A review of probable mechanisms

Epilepsy is the most common neurological disease with no definitive method in treatment. Notably, the main way to treat and control epileptic seizures is drug therapy. However, about 20-30% of patients with epilepsy are drug resistant and require other therapeutic manners. Deep brain stimulation is a new therapeutic strategy for these patients. Conspicuously, there are no clear answers for basi...

Does Unilateral Basal Ganglia Activity Functionally Influence the Contralateral Side? What 1 We Can Learn from Stn Stimulation in Parkinson's Disease Patients. 2

36 In humans, the control of voluntary movement, in which the cortico-basal-ganglia circuitry 37 participates, is mainly lateralised. However, several studies suggest that both the contralateral 38 and ipsilateral basal ganglia (BG) systems are implicated during unilateral movement. 39 Bilateral improvement of motor signs in Parkinson’s disease patients (PD) has been reported 40 with unilateral...

Neurocomputational models of motor and cognitive deficits in Parkinson's disease.

We review the contributions of biologically constrained computational models to our understanding of motor and cognitive deficits in Parkinson's disease (PD). The loss of dopaminergic neurons innervating the striatum in PD, and the well-established role of dopamine (DA) in reinforcement learning (RL), enable neural network models of the basal ganglia (BG) to derive concrete and testable predict...

Altered subthalamo-pallidal synchronisation in parkinsonian dyskinesias.

The aim of this work was to study the role of subthalamo-pallidal synchronisation in the pathophysiology of dyskinesias. We recorded local field potentials (LFPs) in a patient with Parkinson's disease and left surgery induced dyskinesias with double, bilateral deep brain stimulation electrode implants in the subthalamic nucleus (STN) and the globus pallidus internus (GPi). Synchronisation was s...

Oscillations in the basal ganglia in Parkinson’s disease patients and their influence on the cerebral cortex and behavioural performance

Oscillations in the basal ganglia in Parkinson’s disease patients and their influence on the cerebral cortex and behavioural performance Synchronised bursting of the basal ganglia, specifically at frequencies below 30 Hz, has been implicated to have a major role in the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease (PD). The aim of this thesis is to further investigate the pathological role of low freq...
